will be more here soon! Screw Roll This video is a promo for a DVD but it illustrates the screw roll very nicely. Of particular note is the finish position - effectively a 'safe' high brace position. Note how the head stays down and that the arms are kept within the 'safety box' throughout the stroke, thus minimising the risk of injury. It's very easy to strain a shoulder when rolling, ask my left one! Screw Roll 2 This video is in sea kayak which is useful to us. He talks a lot about 'hip snap' but remember how we discussed how this does not need to be a violent action. The term itself is used as a coverall for the lower body action performed in order to right the kayak. Also note that in order to keep his head down, he leans slightly back. This is not the same as a back deck roll, but is merely the means by which he ensures his head comes up last. I find this a reliable method in sea kayak. Back to training portal |
