Paddle Orkney 09

a summer weekend of paddling from Orkney's mainland held in August 2009

Since 2007, we have had several visits from our close neighbours, the Shetland Canoe Club: This year, we also invited paddlers from other clubs to join us in Orkney. The weekend was an informal gathering of kayakers, with local paddlers on hand to show some of the Orkney paddling delights. Two five star coaches, Nige Robinson and Donald Thompson, kindly agreed to come up to take coach sessions. These were much appreciated.

The Orkney Riding Centre (near Kirkwall) was booked to provide a low cost exclusive camping area for tents and camper vans . Facilities included parking, toilets, kitchen and dining area, covered storage/drying and along with a covered arena for indoor camping. The dining room was also used for evening socials.

Showers and Jacuzzi were available at the nearby Pickaquoy centre.

We also welcomed some friends and family of the active kayakers - there are always plenty of other activities in Orkney.
