Paddlers joining kayaking trips organised by individual OSKA members should be aware that they are responsible for their own safety. Neither OSKA nor the individual organisers accept responsibility for other paddlers or for instructing them as part of the trip.
Wave and Tidal Energy developments
All 4 proposed sites are right in our regular paddling routes.
However the engineer involved in the consulation process seems keen to take our considerations on board - the main one being that there should be a clear coastal passage.
To answer some other questions:
- not all sites will be buoyed due to difficulties of deploying buoys where there are fast moving tidal streams
(may be more of hindrance than help).
- there will be no exclusion zones
- Work is likely to begin this summer
Proposed sites (One wave site and one tidal site will be chosen)
1. Roseness (Wave)
2. Howequoy Head (west of St Mary's) (Wave)
3. Linton Bay (East of Shapinsay) (Tide)
4. just west of Rerwick Head (Tide)
